Stephen Franklin, M.D.

IMG_2135_-_Copy-franklin.JPGA physician for over 40 years, Dr. Stephen Franklin practices general ophthalmology at Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A. with a special interest in cataracts and glaucoma. After completing his undergraduate education at New York University, he graduated with honors from State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate College of Medicine, then interned at Indiana University Medical Center. After serving in the Captain Medical Corps of the US Army, he returned to SUNY Downstate to complete his residency, earning a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology from the University of Michigan. In 1971, he began treating the residents of Wilmington.

He is currently the senior attending physician at the Medical Center of Delaware, an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Jefferson Medical College, and a Clinical Associate at Wills Eye Hospital.

Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Franklin holds memberships in the following organizations:

Paula Ko, M.D.

IMG_2124_-_Copy-ko.JPGA board certified physician, Dr. Paula Ko focuses on retinal problems, particularly diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and CMV retinitis. Dr. Ko received her undergraduate degree from the Ohio State University College of Engineering, graduating with honors. She returned to Ohio State for her medical degree, graduation with honors from the College of Medicine. Following her medical/surgical internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Ohio, she completed her residency in ophthalmology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where she served at Chief Resident. She served a prestigious fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC in diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Dr. Ko has been a partner at Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A. for over 15 years. She is also on the staff of the Temple University Hospital. Considered a leader in her field, she has lectured extensively on retinal diseases and other topics in ophthalmology.

Jeffrey Minkovitz, M.D.

IMG_2116_-_Copy-minkovitz.JPGDr. Jeffrey Minkovitz focuses on corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery. After graduating Magna cum Laude from Harvard University, Dr. Minkovitz received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed his internship at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA and his residency in ophthalmology at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, before serving a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Minkovitz participated in the early research on Excimer Laser photorefractive surgery (PRK) since 1994. He has offered this procedure to his patients in Wilmington since FDA approval in 1996. In addition, he performs the latest in refractive surgery to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism; cataract surgery without needles, patches, or stitches; corneal transplants, and thoroughly screens for and treats a variety of eye diseases.

A partner at Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A. for 15 years, Dr. Minkovitz is also on the staff of Christiana Hospital, Wilmington Hospital, and the Center for Advanced Surgical Arts. As an assistant clinical professor at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Minkovitz received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the residents at Wilmer Eye Institute. He was also voted Top Doc in ophthalmology by Delaware Today Magazine and was an invited instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting in 2005 and 2006.

Dennis Mirra, O.D.

IMG_2161_-_Copy-_mirra.JPGAn experienced optometrist focusing on contact lens fitting and care with over 20 years of experience, Dr. Dennis Mirra graduated from Penn State and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He is also a Major in the US Army Reserves.

Dr. Mirra focuses on contact lens fitting and care and frequently consults on complicated refractive and muscle balance problems. Well-versed in the latest techniques of computer analysis, he is able to fit people with contact lenses who could not previous wear them. Always seeking to continue his education, Dr. Mirra was one of the first optometrists in Delaware to be certified in the use of therapeutic drugs.

A board certified optometrist, Dr. Mirra is a member of the following professional organizations:

Carolyn Glazer-Hockstein, M.D.

IMG_2131_-_Copy-glazer.JPGDr. Carolyn Glazer-Hockstein focuses on patients with retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular disease. Dr. Glazer-Hockstein received her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she graduated with honors, was elected to the Hobart Armory Hare Medical Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and earned the Carroll R. Mullen Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. After completing her internship at Presbyterian Medical Center, she stayed in Philadelphia to complete her residency at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was elected chief resident. She completed a medical retina fellowship at the Scheie Eye Institute.

Dr. Glazer-Hockstein practices the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment techniques of retinal diseases including laser therapies and injections. Her research has been published in journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Musculoskeletal Medicine, and Retina. She has also presented at national and international conferences including the Asia Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Sydney, Australia, the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology National Meeting and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Currently on the board of the Delaware Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Glazer-Hockstein is a member of the following professional organizations:

Scott Fudemberg, M.D.

IMG_2140_-_Copy-fudemberg.JPGWith a focus on glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Scott Fudemberg is one of the newest partners of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A. Dr. Fudemberg graduated from the St. Louis University School of Medicine with Distinction in research, where he was selected as one of two student members of the Curriculum Coordinating Committee for clinical rotations. He completed his internship at the St. Louis University Group of Hospitals and his residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, serving as co-chief resident and earning the Alan W. Riley Award for Resident of the Year. He served a clinical glaucoma fellowship at the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia.

Dr. Fudemberg has been at the forefront of research concerning glaucoma and glaucoma laser therapy. He has presented extensively on the topic at the annual meetings of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society, and the Anna and William Goldberg Glaucoma Service and Research Center. His research has been published in the Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers & Imaging, and Glaucoma Today.

Dr. Fudemberg is board certified and a member of the following professional organizations:

Robert Sergott, M.D.

Dr. Robert Sergott focuses on neuro-ophthalmology. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Sergott completed his internship at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York and his residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He served fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami Florida and neuro-immunology and multiple sclerosis at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

In addition to his practice with Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A., Dr. Sergott is also an attending surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital, attending neuro-ophthalmologist at Lankenau Hospital, attending ophthalmologist at Methodist Hospital, and professor of Ophthalmology at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Sergott is involved with numerous clinical trials.

Named one of the Top Docs by Philadelphia Magazine, Dr. Sergott has been named the Best Ophthalmologist in America by Ophthalmology Times and received the Golden Apple Award for Best Clinical Teacher by the 1989 residency class of Wills Eye Hospital.
