Weekend Hours in Ophthalmology

On-call weekend is a term that is well known in the medical world.  As we all know, people don't get sick or have injuries or emergencies during office hours only.  Many things happen during weekends that are better handled by the doctor on call for a particular practice or for a medical specialty. Even Emergency Rooms refer to the specialist as not all medical issues can be resolved in the emergency room.

Ophthalmology has their own circle of physicians that take turns being on call and of course EPS physicians take part in that coverage.  To better serve our patients, EPS has started keeping office hours during the on-call weekends which our doctors are on duty.  Dr. Minkovitz was on duty the weekend of October 16th and Dr. Ko will be here this coming weekend (beginning Friday night October 23rd).  The EPS office at 1207 N. Scott Street will be open during this on call weekend for all eye emergencies.  This is in addition to the monthly Saturday hours by appointment that EPS recently established for the 3rd Saturday of each month.  The Saturday hours are covered by Dr. Velardi.
