Refractive Procedures to Serve Every Need

Refractive eye surgeries, such as LASIK and Advanced Surface Ablation (which includes PRK, LASEK, and  Epi-LASIK) are procedures that are performed to correct refractive errors including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, as well as presbyopia (the loss of reading vision). The goal of these procedures is to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses.  This may result in both cosmetic as well as functional lifestyle benefits.

Our Refractive Procedures

PRK

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is an eye surgery performed to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. It was the original method used for laser vision correction, and it remains an ideal choice, especially among those with thin corneas or prior eye surgery.  It is also ideal for patients concerned about safety and stability in the possibility of injuries (police, military or active lifestyles).  Dr. Minkovitz was involved in the early research before FDA approval, and was the first surgeon to make PRK available to his Delaware patients.

Conductive Keratoplasty

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) at Eye Physicians & Surgeons of Delaware is offered as a safe, non‑invasive vision‑enhancement option for patients with mild farsightedness or age‑related near‑vision loss. Using gentle, low‑energy radiofrequency pulses, the ophthalmologist reshapes the cornea to improve its focusing power—without lasers, cutting, or removing tissue. The procedure is performed in‑office, typically takes only a few minutes, and is ideal for patients over 40 who want clearer reading vision or are not good candidates for LASIK. Eye Physicians & Surgeons provides thorough evaluations, personalized treatment planning, and attentive follow‑up care to ensure patients achieve the best possible visual outcome with minimal downtime.

Epi‑LASIK

Epi-LASIK is a refractive surgery that can reduce your dependence on glasses or contacts. Although similar to LASIK and PRK, the treatment may be more appropriate if you have certain corneal conditions or eye sensitivities. At Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A., our refractive surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Minkovitz, is highly skilled and familiar with the latest technology. When you receive Epi-LASIK at our Wilmington, DE, practice, you can expect to enjoy a safe surgery with outstanding final results. In fact, like many patients, you could even enjoy 20/20 vision or better.

LASIK

LASIK is the most well-known form of laser vision correction, but it’s not ideal for every patient. At Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A., in Wilmington, DE, Dr. Jeffrey Minkovitz performs PRK surgery as an alternative to LASIK. Why do we encourage our patients to consider PRK instead of LASIK surgery?

LASEK

Laser-assisted in situ epithelial keratomileusis, or LASEK, can be provided at our Wilmington, DE, practice to treat astigmatism, myopia, or hyperopia. It is often recommended to patients who do not qualify for LASIK due to having steep or thin corneas. If you want to reduce or eliminate your need for corrective eyewear, but do not qualify for LASIK or other refractive surgeries, our doctors can determine if LASEK is the right solution for you.
